Give Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving, dear friends!  May your day be filled to the brim and your cup runneth over.  I hope before we lay our heads down tonight, we realize all our many blessings then bow our heads in true gratefulness!

This old dough trencher filled with pumpkins and gourds makes a great fall centerpiece on the dining table.

A few dried corn stalk husks picked off my dad's fields make a great fall bouquet in a vintage ice cream maker.

Postcards from the Ridge

A very good morning to all my dear (and patient) followers out there!  It is apparent to me that my blog has unintentionally defaulted to a seasonal blog being that in my fast pace summer life, I just do not make time to post.  Yet as soon as the weather turns chilly and we start to deck the halls for the holidays, oh what-do-you-know, up pops a new post!  Wow, I am terribly sorry to let you all down by dropping the ball year round.

So what have we been up to here these days?  We recently dove into the daunting task of wallpaper removal in many of our rooms.  Being a Victorian home, every wall here had been pasted with layers of paper.

For months after moving here, I struggled between keeping our Victorian home congruent in period and style or making cosmetic updates to it.  Over time, we realized that the dark, printed Victorian style is just not us, so we are now working at making this space ours!  I cannot wait to show you some of our progress with before-and-after photo posts.  If you stick this out with me, you will not be disappointed and I will show you every room change soon!

In the meantime, I am visiting over at Postcards from the Ridge today!  Angela has graciously invited me over to her lovely blog to share our fall farmhouse tour!  Thank you very much, Angela!  It is such an honor and delight to be featured there!  Please *Click Here* to head over to check it out and say hello!

Thank you all again for your great patience and choosing to continue to hang out with me here despite the lapse!

Hope you all have a lovely fall day,

Fall Tour Recap

Happy Thanksgiving, my friends!  I hope you had a great holiday and enjoyed every moment!  I want to take a minute and share a bit of stark truth.  Here is my week in a nutshell... still dealing with the shower-leaking-through-subfloor-into-kitchen drama, jeep not starting and sitting dead in the drive, and now the cherry on top, my external hard drive just crashed and I lost all my blog photo archives.  Contemplating these past events today, I found myself standing at a crossroad...hang my head and feel sorry for myself or give thanks to the Lord for all the many, many, many blessings bestowed upon me.  Life is good, God is good!  We have so much to be thankful for, don't we?

Thank you for joining me on my little fall tour this week on Facebook and Instagram!  Here is a little recap, just in case you missed it!

Some of you may be wondering what my centerpiece is!  Any guesses?  It is an apple grinder for cider making and can be used in grape crushing as well.  See the side crank still intact?  It is still very usable.  Just give that handle a turn and you have yourself some apple sauce!

Thank you again for hanging out with me this week!  Today does conclude our little fall tour, but not to worry, Christmas comes next with the annual Holiday Housewalk and decking these halls begins tomorrow!

Take care,

For the Love of Pumpkins

Welcome, welcome, I am so glad you are here!  If you are shocked to see pumpkins, don't be alarmed,  I am the kind of gal that likes to stretch each season out for as long as possible, in fact, I admit some years there just might have been Christmas lights up in January!  And who doesn't love pumpkins even now this late into November?  Thanksgiving week is upon us and we are going to have some fun together this week!  For the promised fall home tour, let's do something a little different.  Each day, between now and Thanksgiving day, I will be posting fall home tour photos on the Instagram and Facebook pages.  I would love it if you come back each day for a tiny dose of fall, Rusty Hinge style!

After our petite fall tour this week, it's on to Christmas decorating with the annual virtual Holiday Housewalk!  Yay!  I can not wait and hope you will join us for the housewalk starting next Monday, November 30!  I have been working extra hard scheming and planning how to deck the halls this year and hope not to disappoint!  Please mark your calendars and come along!

Find Rusty Hinge on Instagram

That's right, Rusty Hinge is now (finally!) on Instagram!  I know, I know I am a bit behind the times, but in truth, I stalled because I am really not so certain what I am doing.  Call me old fashioned, but this is uncharted territory for me.  Fancy that, a millennial not on Instagram!  I would love to hear any tips you could share with me on how to make the most from my Instagram account.  How do I take the best photos for my feed?  Hashtags?  Any and all help is much appreciated! :)  Although I may be a tad green at first, I invite you along for the ride at rustyhingelifestyle.

I will leave you with a collection of fall photos from previous home tours.  A brand-new fall tour coming soon!

I love this time of year, don't you?
