'Twas the Night Before Christmas

Silent night, Holy night, all is calm, all is bright.

Merry Christmas Eve!  I know I had previously mentioned on Instagram, I'd be sharing photos of our master bedroom all decked out for Christmas, well as it so happens, I sold our bed frame right out from underneath us to raise money for our planned adoption!  Although a mattress on the floor will do for now, it doesn't make for great photos so I will have to postpone showing you until a later time.

Instead, I thought I'd share the significance behind the blog name Rusty Hinge!  Here goes: you all probably recall the well-loved magazine, Country Home.  Well, I still remember the very first time (when I was much, much younger!) that I got my hands on a Country Home magazine and opened it!  I instantly fell in love with the lovely photos of beautiful homes with all that chippy furniture!  I vowed to myself that someday, when I grow up, my home would look like that.  And from that day forward, I was hooked and began to collect stacks of decorating magazines given by my aunt.  I cut out all of my favorite pictures and stored them in a binder notebook.  One such photo was of a rusty hinge repurposed into a napkin holder.  'I can do that and it looks easy enough,' I thought to myself.  One fine day, my dad surprised me with an old, rusty hinge that he pulled off the wooden door of our red hay barn.  It was perfect!
So you see, it all started with a rusty hinge and I haven't looked back since!

As you may have already guessed, I love decorating with architectural salvage!  These vintage wooden finials tucked in a garden caddy make a great coffee table conversation piece.

Merry, Merry Christmas!

"And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.  She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."
Luke 2:7

  4. Merry Christmas Maria and what a good cause your Savings is for! We just completed the Adoption of The G-Kid Force and tho' we've had them since Birth, the Adoption Process is a lengthy one, in our Case three long years to finalize! But oh so worth the aggravation, expense and stress it put us through to finally know they have their Forever Home here with us where they belong! I Pray your Adoption goes thru expediently and you shall have to Share Images of not only your New Bedroom... but your New Addition to the Family when that Blessed Day comes! I too cut out volumes of Inspiration Images from Magazines over the years and have a vast Library of them containing over fifty Binders of Bliss! Our small beginnings of the infatuation with the Love of Old expands greatly over the years doesn't it? smiles... Blessings from the Arizona Desert... Dawn... The Bohemian

  7. so excited about your adoption !!!!when I was a teenager, I poured myself into my mom's Colonial Homes magazine and Early American Life....now at 59 years, I still love looking at homes, via blogs, IG, pinterest, and the best, a good "old fashioned" magazine or book !!!! Love the thrill of the hunt, a good flea market and antique are by far my favorite thing to do !! some things never change....Happy New Year!
